Peru Balsam Absolute

• Peru balsam is mainly used as a vanilla base note and as a fixative in perfumes.

• It rounds out and tempers fragrances with powerful, woody, smoky, or warm animal notes.

• It has been used since 1925 in Guerlain's famous women's perfume "Shalimar," where, combined with vanilla and a few citrus notes, it has helped create a legendary and timeless fragrance.

• Frequently found in the composition of perfumes:

  • Oriental feminine fragrances: warm and sensual, combined with ambrette, vanilla, precious woods, and spices to let the senses take over.

  • Floral-woody women's fragrances combined with patchouli, vetiver, and labdanum.

A few ideas

• Create your own oriental woody accord and don't be afraid to combine warm, opulent notes of vanilla, tonka bean, and ambrette with more woody notes such as sandalwood or cedar.

• Approach Guerlain's Shalimar by combining it with fresh citrus top notes (bergamot, grapefruit, mandarin, etc.).

• Add a touch of escapism and depth with floral middle notes (iris, jasmine, rose). Finally, warm, balsamic notes are provided by the famous vanilla and Peru balsam.

• To create a powerfully magnetic eau de toilette, combine Peru balsam with Sambac jasmine and almond, vanilla, or amber notes.

• Round out and temper the warm, powerful, and distinctive notes of your men's fragrances by adding a hint of Peru balsam.

Perfume

• Cosmetic active ingredient: fragrance in a mixture in your fragrant hydroalcoholic preparation.

• Solubility: Peru balsam absolute is perfectly soluble in alcohol at 90° and can be dispersed in vegetable butters provided the balm is shaken well until it solidifies. However, it is insoluble in water and vegetable oils.

• Handling: This absolute is viscous and is packaged in a bottle without a dropper. For ease of use and dosing, we recommend using a 3 ml graduated pipette. Wash your equipment with alcohol.

Beauty

• Cosmetic active ingredient: as an ingredient in your cosmetic preparations, incorporate Peru balsam absolute directly at the end of the formula, in your emulsions (creams, milks, shampoos, etc.).

• Solubility: Peru balsam absolute is perfectly soluble in 90° alcohol and in emulsions. It is dispersible in vegetable butters and oily balms, provided the balm is shaken well until it solidifies. However, it is insoluble in water, aqueous gels, vegetable oils, and cleansing bases.

• Handling: This absolute is viscous and comes in a bottle without a dropper. For ease of use and dosing, we recommend using a 3 ml graduated pipette.

Precautions

• Certain natural compounds contained in this absolute may present a risk of allergy in some sensitive individuals when the absolute is incorporated into a cosmetic composition (according to the 7th Amendment to the European Directive on cosmetic products (2003/15/EC)): benzyl benzoate, benzyl cinnamate and, to a lesser extent, benzyl alcohol.

• Due to its sensitising potential, the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) has issued recommendations regarding the maximum dosage of Peru balsam absolute in perfumes and eaux de toilette: 0.4% maximum, and in cosmetic formulas:

  • Lip cosmetics (lipsticks, lip balms, etc.): 0.03%

  • Deodorants: 0.04%

  • Hydroalcoholic lotions and aftershave creams: 0.1%

  • Hydroalcoholic lotions and creams: 0.4%

  • Hand creams: 0.2%

  • Mouthwash solutions: 0.7%

  • Intimate wipes: 0.4%

  • Hair products: 0.4%

• As a general rule, always test your preparation on the inside of your elbow at least 48 hours before use.

• Dangerous. Follow the precautions for use.

• Harmful if swallowed. May cause skin allergy. Causes skin irritation (risk associated with the product in its pure form). Causes serious eye damage. Toxic to aquatic organisms, causes long-term adverse effects (in the event of a large spill of the product into a watercourse).
