Peru balsam is mainly used as a vanilla base note and as a fixative in perfumes.
It rounds out and tempers fragrances with powerful, woody, smoky, or warm animal notes.
It has been used since 1925 in Guerlain's famous women's perfume "Shalimar," where, combined with vanilla and a few citrus notes, it has helped create a legendary and timeless fragrance.
Frequently found in the composition of perfumes:
Oriental feminine fragrances: warm and sensual, combined with ambrette, vanilla, precious woods, and spices to let the senses take over.
Floral-woody women's fragrances combined with patchouli, vetiver, and labdanum.
A few ideas
Create your own oriental woody accord and don't be afraid to combine warm, opulent notes of vanilla, tonka bean, and ambrette with more woody notes such as sandalwood or cedar.
Approach Guerlain's Shalimar by combining it with fresh citrus top notes (bergamot, grapefruit, mandarin, etc.).
Add a touch of escapism and depth with floral middle notes (iris, jasmine, rose). Finally, warm, balsamic notes are provided by the famous vanilla and Peru balsam.
To create a powerfully magnetic eau de toilette, combine Peru balsam with Sambac jasmine and almond, vanilla, or amber notes.
Round out and temper the warm, powerful, and distinctive notes of your men's fragrances by adding a hint of Peru balsam.
