Uses in perfumes
Labdanum, together with oakmoss, patchouli, and bergamot, forms the chypre accord.
It is generally used as an amber base note in oriental and chypre fragrances. An essential note for evoking the Orient, hookah smoke and other exotic reveries...
In 2007, Annick Goutal launched her "Ambre Fétiche" fragrance, which features a sweet blend of balms and resins, including labdanum.
Frequently found in the composition of fragrances:
Oriental masculine fragrances where warm, rich notes such as vanilla and coumarin are accented by opulent woody notes such as patchouli, sandalwood, and vetiver.
Chypre women's fragrances which, on a chypre base (oak moss, patchouli, and bergamot), go very well with fruity or floral notes. This family includes fragrances with character that are easily recognizable.
Oriental feminine fragrances vanilla, floral, woody... depending on whether the warm, sensual notes are combined with floral or vanilla scents...
Labdanum is also sometimes found sporadically in certain floral fruity compositions to bring a hint of aquatic and woody notes to a fresh and fruity fragrance.
Some ideas
Create a sweet and enchanting masculine fragrance by combining Labdanum with top notes of Bergamot and Pepper, warmed by the dry, warm, amber scents of Copahu balm and Oak moss.
Dare to create a fresh and sensual eau de toilette by combining Lemon, Ginger, and Elemi with the spicier, woodier notes of Coriander, Vetiver, and Tonka Bean, as in Kenzo's L'Eau Indigo.
For a feminine chypre, Labdanum blends beautifully with Mandarin, Osmanthus, Rose and warmer, more vanilla-like base notes such as Patchouli, Benzoin and Tonka bean, as in Lancôme's Hypnose Senses.
Lighter eaux de parfum will gain sensuality by combining Labdanum with fresh, green top notes of Lemon, Mint, and yellow fruits.
