The Boswellia genus, part of the Burseraceae family, includes around thirty species, most of which originate in the arid regions of Africa, but are also found in the Middle East and Asia. They are distinguished from each other by their composition, which varies according to geographical origin, climate and growing conditions.

The resin present in the bark of trees is an element of great interest, taken by incision in the bark in the majority of cases. When injured, the plant secretes this resin as protection.

For this essential oil, we have chosen to work with a supplier who harvests the frankincense resin from the surface of the trunk in a way that is totally respectful of the tree, the resin being produced naturally by the chewing of beetles.

Frankincense is highly prized in energetic aromatherapy and in meditation, to encourage concentration and spiritual elevation.

Subspecies of this genus are also commonly known as 'Olibanum' or 'Frankincense', a term derived from the French word 'franc', referring to its purity and superior quality, and from the Latin word 'incensum', meaning incense.
