The Magnoliaceae family is very old. Fossil plants identified as belonging to this family have been dated back 95 million years. The name Magnolia comes from the French doctor and botanist Pierre Magnole, who was director of the Montpellier botanical garden. The essential oil we offer is extracted from a genus closely related to the Magnolias, Michelia alba, which also belongs to the Magnoliaceae.
