The camphor tree is an iconic tree associated with the city of Hiroshima. It was the first tree, along with the Ginkgo biloba, to recover from the atomic bombing! Originally from South-East Asia, this tree, which can grow to 25 metres, has acclimatised to many other regions where it is considered an invasive species. High in purifying, cleansing and tonic active ingredients, the essential oil is extracted from the bark of the cineole chemotype of this tree, which has multiple "chemotypes" (chemical variants) depending on the biochemical composition of the essential oils extracted.
It should be noted that the botanical name Cinnamomum camphora also refers to : - the essential oil of the camphor tree CT cineole, obtained from the bark of the Chinese camphor tree of the cineole chemotype, which is the oil we are selling here.
- Camphor CT camphor essential oil, obtained from the bark of the Chinese camphor tree of the camphor chemotype, which is high in camphor (aromatic ketone) and safrole, (but which we do not sell because it is quite difficult to use in the right amounts due to its toxicity). Ho wood essential oil, also known as shiu wood or Japanese laurel, extracted from the leaves and branches of the Chinese Camphor tree of the linalol chemotype, which is high in linalool (aromatic alcohol) - Ravintsara essential oil, obtained from the leaves of the Madagascar camphor tree and which is high in 1,8 cineole (aromatic oxide) All of these are essential oils with very different compositions and usage instructions that must not be confused with each other!
