We guarantee maximum safety for all our products

Our commitment: to offer you ultra-high-performance skincare products with 100% guaranteed benefits and maximum safety for your health, under normal conditions of use. With a high-level, fully in-house toxicology department, the safety of all our products (cosmetics, food supplements, plant extracts, essential oils, etc.) is central to our expertise. Interview with Adeline Nalin, Doctor of Pharmacy, Head of Regulations and Toxicology at Aroma-Zone.

"Consumer health and safety are fundamental to the development of our products. We work hand in hand with the Research & Development department from the very first stages of creating our products".

Adeline Nalin, Pharmacist in charge of regulations and toxicology, Eurotox toxicologist

Adeline, can you introduce yourself and tell us about your role at Aroma-Zone?

I am a Doctor of Pharmacy, I've been working in the field of toxicology for over 20 years and I'm Eurotox certified. This is the highest level of European certification in toxicology, reviewed every 5 years. This means that we have to keep up to date with the latest regulations on a daily basis, as well as following continuous training. This accreditation guarantees us the highest standards in toxicology, which is a guarantee of safety for consumers.

My role at Aroma-Zone is to ensure that all our products are safe for consumers under normal conditions of use. . I work with two Doctors of Pharmacy in my team, three of us are toxicologists and we have an Ecotoxicologist, who provides us with her expertise about the biodegradability of our formulas. We leave nothing to chance. Everything undergoes a thorough, methodical toxicological analysis, to guarantee minimal risk in everyday use and throughout a consumer's life.

What is toxicology?

72% of the European population uses cosmetics every day, regardless of age or sex. As a result, we are all massively exposed to many of the substances found in our personal hygiene and skincare products. The role of our toxicologists is to validate, through data analysis and a range of tests, that each product launched is safe for your skin and your health.

How do you guarantee perfect skin tolerance?

All our skin care products are subject to in-depth data analysis and a series of local tolerance tests (skin tolerance, phototoxicity, ocular tolerance, etc.). We carry out in vitro tests on human epidermis that has been reconstructed in 3 dimensions. These models have a physiological structure close to human skin, are reproducible, robust and in line with the brand's strong commitments, as they are certified vegan. This allows us to observe any markers of inflammation and assess how the formula behaves on the skin to ensure perfect skin tolerance. These tests enable us to work out cell viability, based on an MTT cell proliferation test, followed by an assay of IL-1 α and IL-8 interleukins, markers of immediate and delayed inflammation. They provide complementary results to skin compatibility tests (patch test) or skin acceptability tests (use test), by providing a scientific understanding of a formula's behaviour.

Once the products have passed the in vitro tests, we carry out clinical tests in independent laboratories, on a target panel of volunteers.

Did you know? Animal testing has been banned in Europe for over 10 years, and we are happy that this is the case. Under Regulation (EU) No 655/2013, making claims for properties that are in fact required by the regulations are prohibited. This means that claims such as "not tested on animals", which lead consumers to believe that other products on the European market have been tested on animals, are actually prohibited.

What is Aroma-Zone's position on endocrine disruptors?

Endocrine disruptors, carcinogenic substances, genotoxicity, systemic toxicity (on organs): all the ingredients we use, all our products and all our formulas are analysed to ensure zero risks and guarantee the safest possible use for your health. By scrupulously following the COSMOS guidelines, we are also free from the most problematic ingredients (PFAS, etc). Our formulation charter is more demanding than European regulations

"The brand is extremely committed when it comes to the issue of endocrine disruptors. On the one hand, we have a strong regulatory watch on this "evolving" area. Secondly, we have an internal Research and Development tool that enables us to blacklist all ingredients suspected of having harmful endocrine-disrupting effects. We apply this principle to both our ingredients and packaging items.

How can essential oils be used safely?

Our scientific experts have set up a unique safety assessment process for our essential oils. This is a specific Aroma-Zone feature that probably sets us apart from other brands. We carry out a toxicological profile of all our essential oils, factoring in all possible routes of administration and ensuring that all the uses recommended on our website are safe for use. We base our work not just on historical data but on advanced scientific toxicological methodology.

Do you research the impact of formulas on the environment?

We are working on the biodegradability of our formulas and an ecotoxicologist joined our teams several months ago. We have taken part in the drafting of a standard, the GREEN IMPACT INDEX, which is designed to give each product (cosmetics, food supplements, health and well-being products) a score for its environmental and societal impact. This score will be launched on our products in 2026.
