Emeline and organic borage oil
It is in the heart of the Eure-et-Loire, at the entrance to the Conie plateau, that blue fields stretch across 8 hectares. Borage, recognisable by its deep blue flower and star-shaped corolla, is grown there organically to produce a plant that is highly beneficial for the skin. Emeline, an agricultural engineer, has been working there for two years, supporting farmers in the production of French borage oil.

Key facts about organic borage oil:
Production method: Extraction of oil from borage seeds by grinding or mechanical pressing.
Type of farm: Organic and conventional.
A closer look at borage production:

Borage (Borago officinalis), known by its botanical name, is a plant of the Boraginaceae family that grows throughout France. Its beautiful star-shaped flowers colour the landscape pink as they bloom, then take on a lovely blue-violet hue after pollination.
Borage is sown in spring in rich, light soil. Once established, it usually self-seeds spontaneously.
Borage has a rapid growth cycle; it flowers in June and early July and can be harvested from late July onwards. When mature, it produces seeds from which the valuable fatty oils are extracted to make borage vegetable oil. By cutting the plant when mature, the seeds are allowed to ripen, and the leaves dry naturally. After being harvested using traditional methods, the seeds are dried naturally and then sent to an oil mill to have the oil extracted by cold-pressing.
After cold-pressing, the result is a beautiful golden-yellow oil with a sweet, herbaceous, slightly nutty aroma and a rich, creamy texture.
French borage oil, a source of omega-6
Grown and processed in France
Although it grows easily in our climate, it is not easy to find borage oil of French origin in significant quantities. Cultivating this plant can sometimes be tricky, as it is highly susceptible to the vagaries of the weather, and oil yields are low (around 20 per cent of the seeds’ dry weight). Furthermore, the seeds must be harvested when ripe, and as the plant’s flowering period spans two months, farmers are obliged to harvest over this period.
This borage oil is virgin grade, produced by first-press cold extraction to preserve its high omega-6 content.
An exceptional blend
Borage vegetable oil is rich in essential polyunsaturated fatty acids, including:
Linoleic acid (omega-6): 32–42%
Gamma-linolenic acid (omega-6): 15 to 25 per cent
Oleic acid (omega-9): 15 to 20 per cent
Gamma-linolenic acid is an essential fatty acid that plays an important role in skin health, improving its suppleness and preventing dehydration. Organic borage vegetable oil is also a source of phytosterols and tocopherols (vitamin E), which have soothing, protective and regenerative properties.
