A must-have in every sportsman's emergency kit, Sweet Wintergreen essential oil owes its reputation as a powerful painkiller and anti-inflammatory agent to its high content of natural methyl salicylate. Traditionally used in blends for massaging sore muscles and joints, it is the benchmark for natural aromatherapy treatments to help relieve tendonitis, rheumatism and back pain.

  • Use for localised application only, avoid overly large areas, especially at high doses.

  • Not recommended for people allergic to aspirin or salicylates.

  • Due to its possible blood-thinning effects, do not use on people undergoing anti-coagulant treatment.

  • Do not diffuse.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • As a general rule, always carry out a test application of your mixture in the crease of the elbow at least 48 hours before using it.

  • Dangerous. Observe precautions for use.

  • Harmful if swallowed.

A cousin of the American Wintergreen originally from China, Sweet Wintergreen is native to Nepal. It is a small evergreen shrub with creamy-white flowers that give way to purplish-red berries in winter. Its leaves give off a strong medicinal odour when crumpled. Like American Wintergreen, they naturally contain a high level of methyl salicylate, a compound similar to aspirin.
