Properties

Carrot essential oil is recognised for its health properties:

  • Helps to regenerate liver cells

  • Helps lower cholesterol levels

  • Its detoxifying, draining and hepato-renal (liver and kidneys) depurative action

  • As a general tonic

Uses

It is traditionally used to improve the following situations:

  • Hepatobiliary and renal insufficiency, post-hepatic and diabetic convalescence, liver regeneration (on medical advice)

  • High cholesterol (under medical supervision)

  • Elimination of toxins

  • Nervous fatigue

Precautions

  • Not suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women or children.

  • For internal therapeutic use by therapists only.

  • Keep out of reach of children.

  • Avoid contact with eyes.

  • Certain natural compounds contained in this essential oil may present a risk of allergy for certain sensitive individuals when the essential oil is incorporated into a cosmetic composition (in accordance with the 7th Amendment to the European Directive on cosmetic products (2003/15/EC)): limonene.

  • As a general rule, always carry out a test application of your mixture, in the crease of the elbow, at least 48 hours before using it.

A member of the Umbelliferae family, this plant is best known for its root, which is used in cooking. Less widely used, the plant's seed, when distilled, produces an essential oil and a hydrosol that are just as beneficial for their properties on the skin and also the hepato-adrenal system.

However, these spoon ratios depend on a number of factors (e.g. viscosity of the liquid, temperature, depth and size of the spoon, rheological behaviour of the liquid), and we strongly advise you to use precise measuring equipment, such as graduated test tubes, graduated pipettes, and precision scales.

Scallops with nettle coulis (J-P.Ortega)

Kitchen

  • 12 whole scallops

  • 1 plain yoghurt

  • 75g dried white nettle. If dried, rehydrate in 200 cl warm water for 15 mins.

  • 1 litre white wine

  • 1 drop carrot oil (daucus carota)

Preparation: Poach the scallops in the white wine (do not boil as this may cause the fish flesh to turn pale). Cook for 7 mins over a very low heat. Set the scallops to one side. Add the nettles and yoghurt to the cooking juices. Blend everything together. Once well blended, add the drop of carrot essential oil. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Serve the scallops topped with the sauce.

Ricotta with carrot essential oil (O. Davy)

Kitchen

Serves 6

  • 500 g ricotta cheese

  • 3 sprigs dill, chopped

  • 100 g sprouted quinoa seeds

  • 100 g blanched almonds

  • 1/2 bunch of parsley, chopped

  • 1/2 bunch of mint, chopped

  • 500 g sliced carrots

  • 15 cl oat lotion

  • Guérande salt

  • A few dashes of cayenne pepper

  • 100 g rocket

  • 1/2 bunch of chervil

Fragrance oil no. 1 :

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • 2 drops carrot essential oil

  • 2 drops lemon essential oil

  • 1 drop orange essential oil

Fragrance oil no. 2 :

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1 drop cumin essential oil

  • 2 drops lemon essential oil

Preparation: Soak the almonds for 4 hours in a glass of spring water. Mix the ricotta with fragrance oil no. 1. Add the sprouted seeds, crushed almonds, chopped parsley and mint. Use 2 tablespoons to form 2 dumplings per person. Steam the carrots for 6 minutes and season with salt. Blend with the oat lotion, fragrance oil no. 2 and cayenne pepper. Place some of the carrot coulis on a plate and add the 2 ricotta dumplings. Garnish with the rocket and a few sprigs of parsley.
